About this role

Job Purpose

To support the achievement of business strategy through the development and implementation of a sound and sustainable finance strategy, and to oversee all finance, accounting, and tax functions of the Organization and its partner entities.

Key Performance Areas

Leadership & Vision

  • Provide strategic input into the overall organizational strategy.

  • Develop and implement a Finance strategy aligned with organizational goals.

  • Provide strategic financial advice to the Organization and its partner entities.

Finance Management

  • Budgeting: Lead and guide the planning and preparation of annual budgets; utilize predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to inform budgeting.

  • Financial Planning & Management: Monitor cash flow; manage investment returns; ensure departmental expenditures stay within authorized budgets; maintain sound financial controls for accurate, timely reporting; advise on a sustainable cost-management structure.

  • Audit: Oversee external audit preparation and execution; ensure accounting records and documentation strictly comply with statutory requirements and internal policies.

  • Payroll & Taxation: Oversee payroll processing; ensure payroll deductions, payments, and tax filings comply with relevant legislation.

Fundraising & Stakeholder Management

  • Support the design and execution of a multi-year fundraising and resource mobilization strategy to grow the capital base and diversify revenue streams.

  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new revenue streams and investment opportunities aligned with organizational and ethical values.

Governance & Reporting

  • Maintain robust financial controls and processes to mitigate financial risks.

  • Compile financial reports in accordance with recognized accounting standards and practices.

People Management

  • Provide leadership to the finance team and establish departmental objectives.

  • Manage direct reports by agreeing on annual goals, evaluating performance, and managing non-performance.

  • Direct talent management, career development, and succession pathways for team members.

  • Promote a culture of high performance and staff engagement.

Education, Experience, & Skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric certificate.

  • BCom Honours degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • Chartered Accountant designation — CA(SA) or equivalent — preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar environment, with at least 5 years at a senior management level.

Knowledge & Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of the non-governmental / non-profit (NGO/NPO) sector.

  • In-depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable accounting frameworks.

  • Strong working knowledge and implementation experience with South African tax legislation.

  • Demonstrated leadership, numerical, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.

  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal influence, reporting, and people management skills.
